Hi Elizabeth and Sarah, thank you so much for addressing the “just” that precedes the title of a stay-at-home-mom, and sharing your thoughts about how this role should be treated positively by the society.
I too suffered from the insecurity of being the same, until I realised the value my role was bringing to my family and to the society too. It’s just that my job deliverables are different, it’s a …
1. cheerful, well fed, happy family full of fun and laughter,
2. a child who is well raised and growing up into such a pleasant, confident adult ready to take on the world,
3. a spouse who is totally respectful of what I do to keep him carefree about a lot many issues,
4. aged parents who feel secure that i am near them,
5. a home that radiates warmth, that everyone can’t wait to come back to at the end of the day
I am proud of what I do, and I know that I am contributing to the society in a different, but definitely meaningful way. However I still do not let this role to define me, I know this is a season of life where this works perfectly well for all of us, but I am ready to take on other work identities when this season changes.
What defines me is my set of values. They will remain the same, no matter what work I am presently doing. Thanks.
