Liz and Sarah! I love the concept of studying success, not failure. There is a lot of parenting research and literature that talks about this. Look into Strengths Based Parenting. Also the Self-Driven Child by Bill Stixrud and Ned Johnson.
It makes so much sense once you think about it. Focusing on what you’re good at. To paraphrase SBP if we work very hard at the things we aren’t talented at (and don’t enjoy!) we can at best hope to become mediocre at them, whereas our talents and passions have infinite potential for growth. Love writing, hate math, mitigate your math detriment and pour your energy into your love of writing and there’s no limit to how great you can be at that.
