There’s a lot of talk about how this happens in all professions (law, medicine, education, etc.) which is correct, but I’m not hearing anything about women who are among the working poor, undocumented women, migrant workers and other women of lower social status. Here in California, women farmworkers are being raped in the fields with the full knowledge of everyone. Women who want a career in a very competitive field are vulnerable, but especially vulnerable are women who are living day to day just trying to stay alive and feed themselves and their kids. These are the most powerless women. Will their abusers ever pay a price like Harvey Weinstein or Bill Cosby? Don’t bet on it. One can only hope that this watershed in the upper echelons will trickle down to the very most vulnerable.
Applause! I am so glad you discussed this on the podcast today because I was uncertain if you would (or could) cover this as a topic. For me, the breaking of this story and the followup of women speaking up afterwards like in #MeToo, has felt like a booster of support and release, a collective shout of calling this out. It feels revolutionary and so good (and my experience has been so benign compared to other women). Everyone who shared their terrorizing experience with this person HW is so brave and I sincerely thank you.
Thanks for this ep on the subject everyone wishes would go away. I’ve had several different careers (TV staff writer, line producer, CGI/FX crew, line cook, legal assistant, teacher, agency temp, secretary to a professor) and I’ve encountered the same shit in each field. It’s not just Hollywood but we drive the culture through media. The change has to happened here to rippled out and down so even the poorest, least powerful women get protected. Thank you again for doing this ep.
You guys had an ad for a teeth straightener in a recent episode. What was the name of it?
Thanks!
