Writer’s Retreat! After months of being stretched too thin, Liz and Sarah take a trip to Ojai for a writer’s retreat. They discuss the productivity benefits of getting away from it all– not just for writers, but for everyone. They also share the details of their “couples session” with spiritual guide Nancy Furst. (There was smudging, there were tears.) Finally, Liz and Sarah share a Hollywood Hack that can spare anyone in any career from unnecessary drama: Don’t talk smack in public!

EXCERPT FROM CHOICE MOM ESSAY:
“Here’s the truth about being a single mom: it’s hard. But not being your mom was so much harder.
Before you came, when I wanted you so badly… that was hard. Yearning for you, working for you, trying over and over again and failing and failing and failing. That was hard.
Now, it’s just logistics. Moving parts. Being organized.
And in between the logistics, I’m happy. I get to be your mom. I get to hold you on my lap. I get to smell your hair. I get to watch you grow. When you were a baby, I once spent an hour watching you learn to swat a plastic worm hanging from your bouncy chair. Now I watch you zip around on your scooter. I watch you learn to color in the lines.
Every day, I watch you become more and more you, and you are amazing.”

Thank you for this episode. I especially loved hearing about your session with the spiritual guide.
I have been struggling with a personal issue, and I felt that the words on the Mother Earth card were being read directly to me. I listened to the whole podcast while in the car, and the minute I got home, I received a call that will allow me to move forward in a positive way. It was very strange.
I also found Nancy Furst’s song very moving.
Thank you both, and I love your podcast!
I’d love to read the essay Sarah wrote and share it with a friend, but I get a 404 error. Will you please update the link? Thanks!
I love your podcasts! Also keep your cabins!!!!
Enjoyed the podcast…no matter the topic, something makes me smile and/or laugh with every podcast to date! Keep it up. I listened to this episode in the car while driving to work and was intrigued to discover that I was noticeably very relaxed and calm after hearing Nancy’s song. What a great alternative to my morning commute!
Is it the lemon tree house retreat in Tuscany that you are fantasizing about? It’s on my Sunday list as well. Maybe we’ll see you there one day. 😊
Oops autocorrect. That’s someday not Sunday. I don’t know how to edit my comment.
