Everyone gets knocked down once in awhile— the question is, what do you do AFTER you get knocked down? If you’re resilient, you get back up! Liz and Sarah discuss the brilliance of resilience and share how working in the entertainment business has helped them develop their own resilience muscles. Then in a very special Take A Hike, executive producer Chuck Reed’s mom, Michelene Reed Laski, reveals why June 13th is a cherished anniversary for her Hollywood family— and why every family should find a reason to celebrate. This week’s Hollywood Hack comes from Robot Chick co-founder Matt Senreich: Ask for favors! (And Liz has a bonus selfie hack.)

This episode popped into my head this morning (it took me a while to figure out whether it was from HiH or HwGR, and when it must have aired, and who the interview must have been with – if it’s not being done already, I recommend getting a transcription service) and I am hoping for an update with Michelene Reed Laski! Does her family’s meals-through-the-years journal have the potential to be published? Does she want it to be published? Would her family be ok with it? I can think of at least 10 people I would give it to as a gift, not including myself.
Also, my partner and I started our own yearly meal journal right away. It was especially apropos for us – when I heard the interview, we were in the midst of a severe financial falloff for both of us, and we were eating at a college dining hall because my part-time admin job had provided me with a campus meal card and parking permit as part of my job – ostensibly as a perk, but functionally because I wasn’t getting anywhere near enough hours to pay rent. We had lots of college res-hall meals last summer, and we’re hoping that each year we’ll see the evolution of our lives trend in a mostly-upward direction – and that since we’re both archaeologists, we may have some fun, weird, traveling entries, even if we have to make our own separate entries.
