WHAT: A Happier In Hollywood Retreat: How to Get (And Keep) A Job As A TV Writer
WHERE: Rolling Thunder Ranch, Ojai, CA
WHEN: April 6-7, 2019
WHY: Because when it comes to staffing, there is a method to the madness. It may feel like getting hired requires a miracle, but it doesn’t. There are actual things you can do to land a job as a TV drama writer— and we’re going to tell you what they are! Then we’re going to show you how to KEEP that first, career-launching job once you get it.
We’re firm believers that people succeed in groups. So come to Ojai and surround yourself with writers as focused, passionate, and ambitious as you are.
Learn. Connect. Succeed together!
ACT 1: What’s Your Story?
How do you best sell yourself to a showrunner, a producer, or an executive? How do you make yourself stand out? YOUR STORY! And we’ll help you craft and maximize yours.
ACT 2: The First Five
When we’re staffing a show, we can tell from the first five pages of a script if we want to meet with the writer. We (and the group) will workshop the first five pages of YOUR script. Is it good enough to get you to the next level? Or do you need to get your butt back in the chair?
ACT 3: Q&A
Ask us anything! Really. Anything.
ACT 4: Nailing The Showrunner Meeting
Now that you’ve honed Your Story, you’re going to get a chance to use it! We’ll “interview” each of you as if you were up for a job on our show. Then we’ll (kindly but honestly) critique your performance so you’ll be ready for the real thing.
ACT 5: Killing It In The Writers’ Room
One of the most intimidating things about being a new TV writer is finding your place in The Room. To help you discover your voice, we’ll lead a mock writers’ room and break an episode of our ABC show, The Fix.
